Love FM hands out ‘Alien’ Awards

KEVIN Downswell, Judith Gayle and Rondell Positive were among the local gospel acts who were honoured recently when Love FM presented the second annual Engage Alien Awards, in a red-carpet fusion event at their Hagley Park road offices.

From head-bopping music to screaming fans and energetic performances, these and other artistes were recognised as such: Kevin Downswell, Artiste of the Year; Judith Gayle, Hotlight Guest of The Year; La Twain, One to Watch for 2013; Lubert Levy, Most Entertaining Personality of 2012; and Rondell Positive, Sky Rocketer of The Year.

Birthed from the hour-long, off-the-wall, youth programme Engage aired Fridays at 5:30 pm, the awards ceremony became a holy ghost party.

From its fearless stance on taboo topics, crazy sound effects, infectious beats, and inspiring interviews with gospel personalities, Engage has won a growing fanbase online and on air.

"When we decided to start Engage, our younger listeners wanted more-- we needed to keep them up-to-date with the latest in music, movies, events, and shows -- this programme had to be trendy yet biblical, radical but saved, unorthodox but Godly --- each week the team delivers surpassing the station's expectation and the Award Show is another testament to this -- Love FM remains committed to the growth and expansion of this excellent programme," explained Nadine Blair, programmes supervisor.

Edgy, creative and Christ-centred, the station hosted the Awards as part of its year-long 20th Anniversary Celebrations. 2013 will also see the station with a new website, new on air features and more content being added for their diverse Christian market.
